Today was an unbelievably amazing day. Today we elected an African American president! Sitting in my classroom made up of almost all African American children, I was moved by the day's events. I watched them watch history in the making. I saw the hope in their eyes, the hope of their own future. We discussed how another one of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s dreams came true. How they have endless possibilities awaiting them. Today was one of the most memorable days of my teaching career. I took a picture of each child holding a Barack Obama picture, put a digital American flag frame around it, printed a copy and labeled it "I was in First Grade at Thomas Jefferson Magnet school the day Barack Obama became President of The United States of America. January 20, 2009". I want them to remember where they were this day in history!
I also took pictures of Dominic so that we can look back and remember this day together. I love the one of him looking right at Obama.
